Thinking of moving to Australia for a carpentry trade course. Is it a good path?
Hi everyone,
I’m a 19-year-old living in Turkey, and to be honest, I’m looking to move abroad for a better future. I’ve been researching Australia and I really like what I see.
My current plan is to come over as an international student, study carpentry through a TAFE institute, and eventually work in the trade. I know carpentry is usually on the Medium and Long-term Strategic Skills List (MLTSSL), which is why it caught my attention.
Before I dive into this, I wanted to get some real insights from people living there:
How is the current job market for apprentice/international carpenters? Is it easy to find an employer willing to sponsor or hire you after TAFE?
How is the TAFE pathway viewed by employers? Are there any specific states or regional areas you would recommend for construction work?
How difficult is it nowadays to transition from a student visa to a permanent residency (PR) pathway through carpentry?
I’d highly appreciate any advice, reality checks, or honest recommendations you can share. Cheers!
