Tick Exposure, Symptoms, But Unsure if Bitten
I was in Massachusetts for a week in April, where I hiked daily in the forest. One day, I started to get a pretty bad headache, and the next day I saw a tick in my room. I never actually saw a tick on me, nor did I ever find a rash.
However, my headache seemed to persist for 2 weeks. So I went to the doctor, got a blood test for lyme and was prescribed 10 days of doxycycline (which I had to really push for). The blood test has since come back negative - which is unsurprising considering that I received the test only 2-3 weeks after possible exposure, so it could be a false negative - and I took the full 10-day course of doxy. My headache did improve quite a bit, and it is my only symptom, but it is still lingering and being persistent.
My question is: should I request for more doxycycline, and if so, for how long? Not seeing the tick on me makes it difficult to say if I ever got bit, but I don't want to take any chances. Thanks!
