Bromance IRL

I’m currently attending a school in the US (university). There’s a girl in some of my classes who, I just found out the other day, is Lebanese. She definitely knew I was Israeli, but we’ve never talked any kind of politics before. When we have interacted it was just because we were assigned to the same group, assigned to be lab partners, have to write a lab report together, etc.

Anyways, we were assigned to be lab partners for a lab in this summer course we’re both taking. We met up at a coffee shop to work on it together and got talking…

She was telling me how much she hopes Lebanon and Israel can make peace, how she wants so badly to visit us, and then told me she reads this sub whenever she needs hope. It was a really good conversation and I definitely wasn’t expecting it… so I wanted the people in this sub who are working towards a better future to hear it. This one conversation was probably the highlight of my summer.

Gift for Azerbaijani wedding?

One of my close friends is from Baku, Azerbaijan and getting married soon (we live in the US). They're very proud of being from Azerbaijan. I'd like to get them a meaningful gift of something that reminds them of home. Can anybody recommend something? Maybe artwork or something like that? Ideally from a person or company in Azerbaijan just to show support for the country.

Chances withdrawal changes the narrative?

I constantly hear that Israelis just want to expand into "Greater Israel" and take over the rest of the middle east (not necessarily just from Lebanese, but the other arab countries as well).

Does Israel's withdrawal from Lebanon mean that people will finally say to themselves "Oh I guess that wasn't true at all"?

Or is this gonna be like the Israeli withdrawal from Sinai (or Lebanon in 2000) where people just ignore it because it so glaringly disproves their point?

And if it does change opinion, how can Hezbollah justify its ongoing existence? I was told they sell themselves as pretending to protect Lebanon from Israeli expansion... but if people know Israel's not interested in expanding, why would the average Lebanese support them?

How to brighten black rubber shoe sole?

I'm an umpire and these are the shoes I wear when I'm behind the plate. I have no issue shining the leather, but how would I go about "brightening" the rubber soles? I've considered things like tire shine but wanted to consult cobblers first in case they know of a product recommended specifically for shoes.

Anyone hiring in Connecticut?

Hey, just wondering if anyone is hiring, or knows someone who's hiring in the CT area?

Basically don't really care where or what I'm doing. I have a MS/BS in Biomedical Engineering and I've been working as a roofer for 2 years so this is my last shot at trying to get an engineering job.
