I am newer to doing track days with about 7 events of experience. I would like to start increasing the speed I am carrying into corners, but lack the confidence since I have a tricky time judging my speed by feel when driving 100+mph. I already have a Garmin Catalyst and it's been helpful in showing me I have a lot more grip available when looking at my lateral G. My car has a racing dash and the speedometer readout is very small and way out of my sightline. I would like to have a way to incrementally increase my entry speed progressivley while approaching the limit, but since I am having a hard time juding +/- 2mph and can't see my speedometer. I am hoping a Vbox Laptimer would give me the instant feedback to make me feel comfortable.
The Racelogic Lap timer has colored LED lights on top that can be set for speed delta and the LCD readout can display my MPH. My plan would be to mount this on top of my dash right in my sightline so I can see the LED in my peripheral vision. If I know I am accurately increasing my speed, I will have the confidence to continue my turn-in and nail the apex rather than getting scared of the increase in lateral G I feel and tracking out wide.
I also was looking at the ApexPro driving coach unit. This only has LED lights and uses an internal GPS to measure your G forces through different corners and gives you feedback on the lights of how close your current G force is to your hisorical max G in the spot.
Hopefully as my experience progresses, I will develop the "feel" but I see a benefit in using these tools to slowly and progressively increase my speed until I get that sense.
Am I on the right track with this? Any other advice would be greatly appreciated! Thanks guys!
