EM Attending Considering Transition to Pain Management
After 7 years practicing as an emergency medicine attending, I’ve recently been considering a career change. I was wondering if anyone here has experience transitioning from emergency medicine into pain management.
One thing that surprised me is how procedure-based the field seems to be, which honestly appeals to me more than I initially expected. It also seems like one possible path to getting back to a more normal schedule, and from what I’ve seen, the compensation can be similar or even higher. The main downside, of course, is having to go back and complete a fellowship.
Has anyone here made this switch? Was it worth it? What does your day-to-day life look like now compared to EM?
