I ordered a ton of food for my family and some of my elderly neighbors. It was a an expensive breakfast order with a hefty tip to boot. I have NEVER reported stolen or missing food before.
So DoorDash has a PIN code that you’re supposed to communicate to the delivery person in order to make it “delivered“. I had instructions that it was supposed to be brought up to my door inside my building. They texted me that they were there outside and asked for the code. I decided to go ahead and come down and let them know. I was on my way down and gave them the code. In the meantime, they left and took my food with them after logging it in. How do I know they took the food?
I got downstairs, not even a minute and a half after I’ve given her the code (we have kind of a slow elevator). I got there and there was no food, no persons in sight, and she refused to answer the phone. She communicated by text that she left the food by the door because I had “taken too long- longer than three minutes - and she wasn’t permitted to wait”.
I explained that there wasn’t any delivery there. I asked for a picture confirmation of where she left it and she said she had communicated it to DoorDash and it wasn’t saved on her phone. So no photo.
I contacted DoorDash, who said that the food was “delivered” that the code was given and that the Geo location matched my apartment - therefore nothing could be done. They refused to say whether or not a picture of the food was shared with them and refused to share any picture with me.
I explained to them that there was no way that anybody else could’ve stolen the food- because of time that had passed and location - and that she must’ve taken it and had the timestamps on our communication to prove it. (I had our text times and the times I let myself back into the building with my security code) Or at least she should have waited the full three minutes.
Fortunately, later that day I was able to get a hold of security cameras from my building and shared the footage of her *putting the food down ….waiting for a few seconds ….and then PICKING THE BAG OF FOOD UP AGAIN AND WALKING AWAY WITH IT ON CAMERA*.
And doing all this, which took several hours of my day in all, I had re-ordered the food. Once I confronted them with the video evidence- DoorDash refunded me my original money but didn’t cover the replacement food. They offered me some ridiculous six month subscription to a premium account, like I’m ever gonna use them again after being confronted with the evidence that their driver actually stole my food and refused to listen to me when I told them that it was stolen by her.
TLDR: pin code is useless if you’re giving it to them digitally/remotely. They can still steal your food or some stranger can take it if they leave it for you to pick up and doesn’t allow for secure delivery. The only point of the pin code is if you’re a person walking up and grabbing the food from them in real life. Useless pin and useless customer service.
