Another "Should I Update from 2.15" post
Hello, it's going to be another one of those, but tailored to my own use case.
Also I have fears about the update and I need reassuring. Akai's dev roadmap and the InMusic PR moves are not helping 😬 but maybe you can :)
Before I start, thank you all for your time already! The MPC platform does have a resourceful community for sure ✨
I'm currently using a MPC Key 37 with 2.15, I really like it. It is stable and I got used to the workflow.
I'm about to dive into several big projects as the gigging season starts and I'm debating the MPC3 update.
I need :
Stability: (especially live) how's 3.8 behaving on your machines? Crashes? Bugs? Quirks?
Backwards compatibility: how much work should I expect to do to play back my 2.15 projects after they get converted? (I've already accept I'll lose anything with changing timesigs 💀)
Optimization: since the Key37 has limited RAM, any major observations on RAM usage differences between 2.15 and 3.8?
Rollback safety: did some of you roll back to 2.15 and was there any problem with the update software? (ofc my SD card with the projects in 2.15 format will be backed up somewhere else)
Few more notes FWIW:
I don't care about the desktop app (but respect to those who do 🫡), don't care about the new onboard NI plugins or any of the new stuff unless they release a new reverb one day 🤞 What's been holding me back is Akai's behaviour rushing updates and the whole timesig fiasco (although I found a few acceptable workarounds such as this one: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ah8Pl1Q8FcI )
