I can't get a good answer as to the origin of Officer Ed Powell
I couldn't find anything from basic google search,
Reddit threads,
or anything else.
Here was an AI slop response:
The Real Origin
>It's not from a TV show or a movie - Officer Ed Powell was a real, actual police officer working for the Cleveland Police Department. In the early 2000s, internet pranksters called the station using a soundboard of a completely different person (the "Springfield Pervert"). Officer Powell answered the phone and got completely roped into the conversation.
>Because he kept repeating highly specific police lines in his distinct voice—like warning people about leaving "lewd and lascivious remarks"—the pranksters recorded him, clipped his voice, and built the famous "Ed Powell Soundboard" to prank other people.
Why everyone confuses him with Carl Winslow
>The soundboard community started using a photo of Carl Winslow (Reginald VelJohnson) as the avatar/thumbnail on YouTube videos whenever they used the Ed Powell soundboard. Because VelJohnson famously played police officers in both Family Matters and Die Hard (where his character was named Sgt. Al Powell), the community perfectly blended the two together as a joke.
>So while you are picturing Carl Winslow saying, "You do realize this is Officer Ed Powell from the Cleveland Police Department..." you are actually listening to a completely real, very frustrated Cleveland cop!
So for obvious reasons I don't believe that slop, but I can't find anything to either corroborate or contradict that response. Sooooo I am in the dark and I actually have no idea at all.
I figure you guys would know best?
EDIT
I can't believe this soundboard is actually REAL
This makes me so happy lol. I keep listening to them and now that I know the cop was actually real it makes them so much better. I thought it was ripped from a movie like Reno 911 or Beverly Hills Cops lol.
