Considering moving to Olympia from Boise

Hey everyone, my family and I are considering a move to the PNW from Boise, Idaho and Olympia is at the top of our list.

We’re planning a visit in November, and we’re wanting to get a good feel for the city in the two days we’ll be there.

Any recommendations for what to visit, see, do, eat, etc? If you had to give a visitor the 48-hour “here’s what Oly is really like” tour, what would be on your list?

Thanks so much in advance, and we can’t wait to visit your beautiful city!

How to transition out of corporate after 13 years?

Finance graduate, worked in banking for a bit (which wasn’t for me, didn’t like the manipulative sales practices), then moved into corporate finance.

The corporate finance job was fine, but man, the work was intense. Low-level analyst job, making $35k, presenting 10-Ks to my executive team.

Then, found a good home in marketing after that. Worked for the same company for 5 years, loved my team and the work we did, made around $120k. Then, company took a downturn and went through layoffs, the second of which I was a victim to.

Spent over a year looking for a new role. Thankfully, I had saved a bit of money, but that was starting to get low, so I started to get somewhat desperate for work. Wound up taking a drastically reduced role at a small company, now only making $60k. Doing much of the same work I’ve done my whole career, but now with a CEO that I simply don’t get along well with. Micromanaging, disregarding my suggestions and insights, etc.

I’ve started to build my own company (CPG) but it’ll take time and cash flow to build fully. Right now, I’m just struggling to keep up with bills with COL being so high, so there’s not a ton left over each month to build a company with.

I’m open to taking my skills to another company in the interim, but I would love to get out of corporate for a bit. I’m fairly skilled with my hands - working on cars, general restoration work, etc - but have never formally worked in a trade. I also am very well aware that entry-level roles aren’t as lucrative, even compared to what I’m making now.

I don’t know. I feel lost quite a bit of the time. Any thoughts, internet friends?
