Hey, as title suggests. I’ve got a Schott BSN4 that I’m playing on for a church. I’ve only played Foxes in my time as a student, graduated college and haven’t been able to afford my own. The church was looking for a bassoonist and were planning on getting a bassoon anyway, so I joined up and am playing on their instrument. It was used, a student bassoon that I think a band director had got his son, who wound up not wanting to keep playing it.

Anyway, my time with this instrument has been a bit of a struggle, to say the least. Between my 5 years off, unfamiliar model, and reed troubles, I’ve been struggling. Then Wednesday, I got my boot swab stuck in the U joint. I don’t know how, that’s never happened to me before, but the church took it to musician supply and had it removed. Now I’m having issue with the f# key, and low E and lower won’t speak.

This has prompted me to actually take action and try to find a bassoonist or specialist or someone who would know more, which I’ve wanted to do since I got my hands on this instrument. I’m in the Midlands area of South Carolina, if there’s anyone local who might be able to help me out or point me in the right direction. I’m open to DMs so people aren’t doxxing themselves or anything.

And bring on the berating! I deserve it, I mean how do you get a boot swab stuck??

Thanks in advance, I’ve been looking forward to getting back to playing and this instrument has been a road block to feeling the elation I remember before I graduated.

I might be a bit of a mad lad, but I went into this third night musically blind. At the announcement of this three night show, I bought tickets, and then once available, bout all 3 albums, the live show, Light Up The Night, everything I’ve wanted for years but just never got. The plan: in anticipation of the show, my wife and I would listen to and read each album, and within a week of arriving, we would listen to Act 3 together.

The reality: life is stressful, and sometimes you get mentally sick, and you forget about important things, and work takes up too much of your time, and next thing you know, you’re on the plane to Nashville for the shows you didn’t prep for.

Now, I’ve been listening since 2019 (technically I started in 2009, when my dad tried to get my older brother into them, but I didn’t really latch on too much). So, I know the story of Act 1 and 2, at least well enough that reading the librettos gave more context for me than story. My wife has listened to The Protomen’a covers, but not experienced the story. So, I wasn’t too worried for myself for nights 1 and 2. Wife and I decided that the best thing for her was to listen to the albums just a little before the concerts with the librettos, so she could go in fresh and knowing what’s happening.

But then after night 2, we had to have a discussion: what would be the best way to enjoy Act 3, since neither of us had listened to it yet? Ultimately, we came to this conclusion: we could only hear Act 3 for the first time once, and figured since we had the opportunity, our first time would be live. We read the libretto in line to get in…

And H O L Y S H I T.

I’m not a big mover, I don’t shout, I usually don’t sing along, or interact much (much to my dads chagrin, he hates that I stand lien a statue and look like I hate my life, when I’m REALLY enjoying the show, and GENERALLY on the verge of tears if not literally biting my lips to stop from full on sobbing because I LOVE LOUD BIG MUSIC WHERE THE CROWD INTERACTS). But Act 3 got me moving the same way as Act 1, even without the musical recognition.

You guys are far and away just the BEST group to be around, the band absolutely rocks, I am in incredible pain and I STILL DONT WANT IT TO END, LETS DO NIGHT 4!! It’s been an honor to fight with all of you, to stand in line with all of you, to experience, listen, support, fucking fuckety fuck, EVERYTHING, ALL OF IT, with all of you!! I couldn’t be more proud to be a part of this group of people. Sorry for just going off on a tangent, I’m just so emotional right now. I look forward to the eventuality of seeing you all again in the future. If they decide to do a regular occurrence of three nights, you KNOW I will be there. Good morning my fellow Resistance. Today marks the third night of Protomen, and I am bound and determined to finally get a nightly shirt in red, as well as the top left helmet shirt in 3X (not the split helmet design). Three nights. Three lines. It’s been a hell of a journey, and a fantastic show so far, and I don’t expect anything less for tonight. Last night we got to the merch booth just as Protomen started, and shuffled behind the wall right as Reanimator jumped off his seat. Today, we plan on getting there at 5, and waiting it out, to hopefully get through before they start.

Hello fellow party people! I am attending the 3 nights concert in Nashville and couldn’t be more excited! However, I have VERY limited Protomen merch! I do, however, have an abundance of TWRP shirts, and I was planning on wearing them Thursday and Saturday. I don’t do too many concerts (I’ve seen Protomen once and TWRP twice), so I wasn’t really sure what the best call for dress would be. I’d assume it’s fine, but didn’t want to inadvertently piss someone off
