Was recently referred to a neurologist for epilepsy-like symptoms and felt dismissed and ignored.
Hey sub,
I've been dealing with some recent health issues that have been culminating over time to make me concerned about neurological issues. In short, I'm constantly suffering from dizziness, vertigo, nausea, imbalance and I get very confused and disoriented when exposed to a strobe light of any kind (concerts, sunlight flashing through trees). Recently I've also started getting positional headaches which concerned me enough to push me to a neurologist. My PCP referred me immediately when I told him about the strobing lights and said that I should get a check-up/EEG promptly.
Well, I went to my appointment and this was probably the worst, most careless and dismissive doctor I've ever seen. Her attitude was horrible, she told me to stop talking while she was writing notes during our appointment, and she reacted to every symptom I told her about with this weird skeptical expression on her face like she didn't believe me. It made me feel stupid, embarrassed and like I was faking it all. She had 0 compassion at all. She even read off digestive symptoms I checked off with this incredulous tone even though I literally had abdominal surgery last year.
I just want some input from people on here with more experience with neurological health care because some of the things she said were extremely bizarre to me:
When told about chronic fatigue "That's not neurological." with a judgemental smile on her face.
Completely skipped over my symptom regarding strobe lights, and when I asked if we'd talked about it she says "I don't care about that, that doesn't help me."
When told my paternal grandfather had 3 strokes in his lifetime, "That doesn't matter."
Did a physical exam, and during a walk/balance part of it that was similar to a field sobriety test, my balance was terrible and I couldn't take a single step without stumbling, especially with heel to toe. She then proceeded to tell me that my exam was completely normal and she "couldn't recreate the dizziness". She also did it all extremely fast like she had somewhere to be.
Thoughts on this?? She's running some tests on me, I just finished getting a brain MRI with contrast today and she requested a few blood labs I hadn't gotten before, but besides that I really want to cancel our follow up and bring my test results to someone else.
