I remember stumbling across this youtube short that showed this MC who (I think?) was frustrated with how he was a background character and noticed how the main character (basically one of those main character of the series but not the universe itself situations) had two love interests which was a popular girl and the childhood friend. The childhood friend had feelings for the main character but couldn't go through with confessing and frequently failed to confess even letting the other girl take chances. So our background dude (the Mc of the series itself) decides to help her out, giving her advice, etc. Instead, she ends up falling in love with him (the background dude), and not only that, the other love rival (the popular girl) also falls in love with him including even the main character too (I think?). I'm sorry if this description is crappy, but this is as best as I could describe it.
