In The Adventures of Tintin (2011), did Sir Francis have to destroy the Unicorn?

Would it not have made more sense to kill Red Rackham's crew in their sleep, deal with Rackham, and then sail the ship back to land?

For one, Rackham's men were wasted, since they didn't wake up despite him and Haddock fighting. He could have taken his time and killed them in their sleep.

Second, by blowing the ship up, Sir Francis would have realistically drowned, because they were in the middle of nowhere. Even if he knows their location (which the film never shows), the odds are against him reaching land before he drowns, especially since he is carrying his hat with the treasure.

The only counter-arguments I can think are: he might have thought they would wake up before he killed them all, and that sailing a large ship alone would have been impractical, but I'm not sure about how 17th century ships worked, so if you do, please say ::)

Just prior to the events of Revenge of the Sith, Obi-Wan Kenobi is separated from Anakin Skywalker in a space battle. His ship is shot, but the technology he is shot with is strange. His ship malfunctions and the coordinates go haywire.

Obi-Wan later wakes up in a busy street in Manhattan, shortly after the events of Spider-Man 3. He reads the navigation and realises not only is he in another galaxy, he is in the future. He exits the ship and notes how civilised yet dated this place is. Spider-Man swings down and engages Obi-Wan in conversation. His spider sense is on alert. Obi-Wan - having not fully come down from the battle - is still cautious. He believes something is wrong and calmly tells Spider-Man to move. Spider-Man does not, unaware of who he is. Obi-Wan sighs, and ignites his lightsaber...

They begin 15 feet away from each other

Obi-Wan has his lightsaber. Both can use any of the surrounding environment as weapons.

The location is a busy albeit blocked off street in Manhattan.

Round one: both are fighting to incapacitate

Round two: both are fighting to kill

Round three: Obi-Wan lands slightly earlier when Spider-Man had the symbiote. Both are fighting to kill.
