I want to warn others about a possible dating-related advance payment scam operating around Andheri, Mumbai.
Here’s the pattern I noticed:
Multiple profiles on dating apps like OkCupid
Requests for advance payments through Paytm before meeting
Different names being used across accounts
After agreeing to meet, additional charges start appearing such as:
security fee
membership fee
safety fee
other “verification” or processing charges
The payment requests keep increasing, while the actual meeting never happens.
Another pattern I noticed was that multiple payment accounts shared the same surname: “Bairwa”. I’m mentioning this only as an observation from the accounts shared with me, not as a statement about any community or surname in general.
