Excerpt from Name TBD [Magic School, 4000]

I've been planning and outlining this story, but I would like some feedback on the ideas while they are still in development. This excerpt is roughly the beginning of the 2nd chapter. Rather than the minutiae of things like grammar and prose, I'd like feedback on the ideas presented:

  1. What do you think of the characters?
  2. Which of them is your favorite and least favorite character?
  3. Is the setting engaging?
  4. Is the magic system presented engaging?
  5. What questions about the magic system and setting do you still have?

If you have any other ideas for improvement, like a name for the story, I'd also like to know those as well.
