Perfect day to leave work early to go shooting!

I recently picked up a CTR in 6.5 Creedmoor and have loved it so much that I decided to grab a T1X in .17 HMR to join the family.

I was able to get all 4 5-shot groups under 1" at 100 meters with the T3X. I've been trying really hard to work on trigger squeeze and not anticipating recoil. For the price, I really enjoy the Hornady American Gunner 140 grain BTHP as it is $1.50 a round locally versus the almost $2.00 per round for the 140 and 147 ELDMs.

The T1X absolutely loves the Hornady 17 grain with 5 shots stacked on top of each other at 50 meters and the 20 grain XTP were slightly larger groups.

I couldn't be happier with this duo. Hopefully soon I can take the T3X out to 600 yards at the other local range here in town.

New to Long Range Shooting - First Time Out

I've been wanting to get into long range shooting for a few years and recently decided to buy my first rifle:

Tikka T3x CTR - 6.5 Creedmoor - 24" Barrel

MDT LSS Gen 3 Competition Chassis

MDT Elite 35mm High Rings

Leupold Mark 5HD 2-25x56mm PR1-MIL

Area 419 Match Muzzle Brake

I was able to take it out today to get the scope zeroed at 100 meters and shoot my first groups

Group 1 - 5 Shots - Hornady American Gunner 140 grain BTHP --- 1.07"

Group 2 - 5 Shots - Hornady Match 140 grain ELD-M --- 1.66"

Group 3 - 5 Shots - Hornady Match 147 grain ELD-M --- 0.57"

A few things I learned was to drink less coffee and red bull beforehand lol. I was also pretty nervous and excited while shooting the first two groups. It was a bit tricky to keep the scope reticle perfectly still and I think that was because I had quite a tight grip on the rifle and grip. On that 3rd group, I tried to use a very soft touch and that seemed to help out a lot. Also, the bags I was using were the Birchwood Casey set from Sportsmans and the rear bag was pretty stiff and hard to squeeze.

Overall I am extremely excited, especially with that 3rd group. This rifle is amazing with the smooth action and the trigger feels extremely light ( I lowered the trigger spring tension before I installed it into the chassis). I definitely think I need more practice to help keep my nerves in check to help consistently get those smaller groups but had a great first time out! Once I am more comfortable, there is a range very close by that goes out to 600 meters so will be excited to try that out as well.

Hey all! I've been wanting to get into long range shooting for a few years now and finally decided to pull the trigger and get a new rifle. I tried to do a bunch of research and Tikka was consistently highly recommended everywhere I looked. I will say, people were not joking about how smooth the action is!

Tikka T3x CTR - 6.5 Creedmoor - 24" Barrel

MDT LSS Gen 3 Competition

MDT Elite Scope Rings - 35mm - High

Leupold Mark 5HD 5-25x56mm --- PR1-Mil Reticle

Area 419 Hellfire Match Muzzle Brake

Still trying to decide on a bipod. I would say I will do at least 90% shooting from a bench and am looking at either the Atlas BT65 w/ Area 419 Arcalock clamp or the Accu-Tac WB-4

Looking to take it out this Saturday to get it sighted in at 100 and see what kind of groups I can get. I have some Hornady Match 140's and 147's to break it in with so we will see how it goes!
