My dog (luna) has always been healthy never had any problem and was active and eating normally. But last month I noticed some greenish foul smelling discharge from her urine. So i immediately took her to the vet as I suspected pyometra. What was supposed to be just a surgery of her uterus turned out to be a nightmare as during the ultrasound her kidneys were really bad and shrunken in size. Her creatinine was 3.28 and bp was 240 and cbc levels were also elevated. Since then it’s just been iv and subcutaneous drips plus a lot of oral medicines. This has turned my life upside down as I never imagined her to be this sick. I am not able to come in terms with it. One week her creatinine will be 3 and other it will be 3.80 plus her urea has started to increase which is making her nauseous but she still has appetite. I am feeding her vet life renal food and homemade food as well (pumpkin, carrot, rice, bottleguard and egg white with some chicken for taste). The most heartbreaking part is she is asking for food and I can’t overfeed her plus she’s just 38kgs which is very less according to her size. I don’t know how I didn’t notice her losing weight so much if only I had gotten the blood test sooner. I regret not doing that and because of me she’s suffering. Please can anyone let me know how I can manage this as with continuous drips her creatinine and urea are not decreasing. Any other tips to make this smoother for her.
