Asheville show - Absolutely Tremendous!
My wife and I had drove down from Ohio and made this show the finale of our anniversary trip across the Blue Ridge Parkway. The Midnight was the soundtrack for most of the drive and they did not disappoint in person. The stage band was absolutely awesome, just a bunch of really talented musicians and you could tell they were having fun playing together. Tylers heartfelt message to the crowd before the comeback kid was a really cool moment that I will always remember. The soulfulness you hear in the lyrics of the songs come through in his stage presence and how he connects with the fans. It felt so good to come together with a group and have such a beautiful shared experience. What a great show, we're so thankful to have gotten to be part of it. I shed grateful tears many times...
On the flip side I was not vibing with Bonnie McKee. For all the soulfulness and depth The Midnight have in their music and performances, I felt the exact opposite from hers. It was more of a lip synching bubble gum pop burlesque show. Idk just wasn't for me and I heard one of the bartenders say she had been a diva about not getting a limo or something like that before the show, so maybe that gave me a negative perception but I really did not enjoy her. Felt like a forced record label pairing and when she came to perform with them on stage and her mic was actually on, it wasn't great. I am totally that guy on reddit speculating right now, but there seemed to be noticeable on stage tension between her and the headlining band.
Again the Midnight themselves were ABSOLUTELY FREAKIN AWESOME, I couldn't recommend them enough. Go to the show, go to all the shows. But maybe skip the opening act.
