Cat in what could be kidney failure after PU surgery.
My 7 year old cat just had a urinary blockage about a month ago. They unblocked him, kept him for a day or two for monitoring, then he blocked again so he needed PU surgery. His kidney levels were high during his blockage, they went down, and then went back up again when he had the second blockage.
He got the surgery, they found bladder stones and realized his bladder wall was in terrible condition, so he also had bladder surgery. All of that resulted in anemia, and he needed a blood transfusion. His kidney levels were still fairly high at this point.
He’s been on SO MUCH medication including fluids 5 times a week, Epogen 3x a week, Adequan 2x a week, a kidney supplement, Amphojel, and Pepcid.
I took him in today to get his bloodwork done and his kidney levels are worse. Like they couldn’t get a read on his BUN levels because they were off the charts and his creatine went from a 7 to a 12. They want to do an ultrasound on him to see exactly what’s causing his levels to spike, since it could be kidney failure or some kind of infection.
He’s still eating, drinking, peeing. Sleeps a decent amount, but still wants cuddles at times.
I guess what I’m asking is…has anyone else gone through something similar? And what was the outcome like?
He’s going back Thursday, but I would like an outsider’s perspective on if there’s anything else I could do to help him that maybe I haven’t thought of.
