LG B5 48'' HDR sudden peak bright turns off tv
Last year, in September 2025, during a Labor Day sale at Best Buy, I bought my younger sister her first OLED TV and a PS5. I considered the C5 at the time, but I also wanted to get her the console and some games that fit my budget, so I settled for the B5. She plays a few RPGs like BG3, FF7, and FF16, as well as some gacha games like Wuwa, Star Rail, and ZZZ .
The problem first occurred a month later because she was busy with school and couldn't play much. When she played the game ZZZ, two of the characters ultimates caused the TV to turn off.
Before this, I had it connected to a power strip from Anker. I'll link the one she uses for reference. She had her TV, PS5, Mac mini M4, and her monitor connected to it.
I found three solutions, and the third one works for us :
1. Lowering the panel brightness to 80 or setting the dark room to level 2 on the game optimizer with HGIG on.
2. Switching the picture mode to Film mode instead of Game mode. It was even brighter than Game mode, but of course, input lag was noticeable; the controller felt delayed. The only good thing is that it stays on, no matter how bright the panel gets. ( So I thought it was a software issue, like the game optimizer having a bug that prevents it from drawing the power it needs. )
3. Finally, we just connected the TV and PS5 to the power strip. The problem didn't occur again, but it happens when I connect the monitor or the Mac Mini. So our solution was to keep the TV and PS5 on it, with dynamic tone mapping on. I also tried it on the wall outlet, and it does it every once in a while.
I saw a post here a few weeks ago about a G5 that had this same problem. I heard that this is a common issue. I personally have a C3 and PS5 with the same power strip my sister uses and have never had that happen.
I'm just posting this here to see if I just bought a bad apple.
