Curious about cheat meals
Hello! I've been diagnosed with hashimoto's six months ago, although I believe I've had it for longer.
In May last year I randomly decided to start a keto diet to lose weight. It worked great and I've felt surprisingly good and energized (didn't have a clue what hashimoto's and hypothyroidism is and what fixes the symptoms) and after losing some weight I decided to go back to my old lifestyle and eat sweets, gluten, dairy, on an everyday basis. Of course that had a terrible effect on me and it caused me to lose 80% of my hair, gain an abnormal amount of weight, inflammation etc. Went to the doctors, got my medication, changed my diet, bla bla, I am doing better now.
I've been gluten and sugar free ever since my diagnosis and I limited my dairy intake (only eating greek yogurt and sometimes cheese), and with the medication, I am back on track, somewhat. However, keeping this diet is exhausting and I've been wondering how bad it is to have a pastry, a pasta dish, a slice of cake, every once in a while? My cravings aren't as bad as before, I've gotten used to this kind of diet, although I do miss certain food, especially when I am surrounded by people who eat normally.
I am very scared of going through severe hair loss again, alongside with the absolute worst symptoms hashimoto's provides when the body is inflamed, so I didn't try to eat gluten and sugar ever since (sometimes I take a bite of someones cake or cookie, just to try it :") but that's it)
Sorry for the long post, I don't have many people with whom I can talk about this, especially since many treat this disease as something thats made up (everyone's tired from time to time, you are faking your "abnormal" fatigue, for example), so any piece of advice is very helpful, especially since I got diagnosed recently.
Thank you in advance and stay strong guys, I know how hard it is to battle this disease both physically and mentally. <3
