I have been on my fertility journey since August 25. I got married in the January and started trying right away due to my age. Previous to this I had been on the pill for around 10 years. I was having no luck getting pregnant and went to see the doctor who has undertaken a number of tests. I had been prodded and poked like never before. I’ve lost count of the number of blood tests I’ve taken. I’ve been sad, depressed, hopeful etc
We think the issue is with my husband due to low sperm count. He has done 2 semen analysis and both times the sperm were either deformed or not swimming. I was finally referred to a fertility specialist in March 26 and have been told today (may) that the waiting list is 10-12 months on the NHS.
My sister just had baby after her second round of IVF via a private clinic. I don’t know whether I just wait for the NHS or go private. My doctor said that I would be prioritised due to my age but it doesn’t seem that way.
What have been your experiences on the NHS? Were you seen quickly or did you have to wait a while. Did you end up going private due to the wait ? I just don’t know what to do, my husband thinks we should go private but I want to at least try on the NHS before I have to pay thousands for something which might not work.
Any advice would be appreciated x
