We have a REALLY OLD amp (Pioneer KX-303, from the 70s, I think) with large stereo speakers that sound really great. The amp unfortunately goes quiet intermittently (80% of the time) on the right channel and we can no longer enjoy stereo. It also has started buzzing a little at random times.

Luckily, my uncle no longer used their 5.1 stereo system (Samsung HT-E330K) and gave the whole set to me.

Unfortunately, my living room setup does not play well with 5 small speakers, I really like our big speakers, and the small speakers have kinda busted wires.

My question comes down to: Can I connect the large stereo speakers to the 5.1 amp?

I was considering connecting both the left channels of the 5.1 amp to the left speaker, and the two right channels to the right (in parallel, I assume?) and then setting the amp to stereo mode. The center channel is left unused and the sub channel connected to the provided subwoofer, essentially turning my 2.0 system into a 2.1 system.

The old stereo amp is rated at 45w and the new 5.1 amp is 35.8w. My biggest concern is the ability of the amp to deliver the power, and also the potential complications of connecting two channels together for each speaker.

The old amp was 45w and we permanently left it on about half volume, so I think the 5.1 amp should be able to handle the power.

The 5.1 came with five 3Ω speakers, but I do not know for the stereo set (it's literally as old as my dad).
