Relocating to Abu Dhabi (ADGM/Al Maryah office) on 30k AED/month, no dependants
Hi everyone — I’m 33M relocating to Abu Dhabi in ~2 months for an IT role based around ADGM / Al Maryah Island. I’m single (no dependants) and will earn 30kAED/month as per offer letter. My relocation package is not zero, but I haven’t confirmed exactly what’s covered yet or additional benefits outside of the expected medical insurance and VISA etc
I’m only considering furnished apartments and I’m optimising for the shortest commute possible (walkable would be ideal, otherwise <20 minutes).
I’d really appreciate direct answers with ballparks and neighbourhood/building recommendations:
- Is 30k AED/month comfortable for a single person in Abu Dhabi (typical lifestyle, not extreme)?
- What annual rent range should I expect for a good furnished 1BR near ADGM / with an easy commute?
- Which areas are best for walkability to ADGM, and which are best for a <20 min commute?
- Transport: is commuting by public transport + taxis/ride-hailing realistic day-to-day from those areas?
- Car: I drive in my home country so if needed I’d only do rental since that’s a viable option — but do people typically rent immediately, or wait and use public transport first because it’s reliable enough?
- Most reliable mobile SIM provider and home internet provider in Abu Dhabi?
- Best bank for expats (salary account + good app + low fees)?
- If relocation doesn’t cover everything, what’s a sensible amount to arrive with for deposits/setup?
Any “wish I knew this before landing” tips are welcome, thanks!
