Hello I'm a current recipient of section 8 voucher assistance. I attempted to move back in October and was told by my caseworker that I had to move out of my home before I could be issued a new voucher to look for a new home. So I asked her where was I supposed to live and and said must people stay with family or a hotel. Well I don't have family in the area and I can not afford a hotel. Long story short she talked to her supervisor and she said as long as my landlord agreed I could stay then the rent would be paid. After that I went through a lot of other back and forth and misinformation given by my caseworker which delayed the moving process all the way to January. By Christmas I decided I would just wait and canceled the move. In February I picked up on finding a home again. So I started the whole process of informing the landlord and caseworker, getting a zero balance and the other things she requested. She again told me that I would have to be moved out before she could give me a voucher. I told her I was not moved out and didn’t understand why my current landlord couldn’t continue to receive the rent until I find somewhere else. I have been waiting for a HUD rep to call me back but my landlord did not receive payment for this month although I have 120 days from 04/18 to find something. Does this sound normal? My caseworker said they can’t pay rent to 2 places but I don’t understand if I’m not in a lease with any other property yet how would they be paying rent to 2? At this point they didn’t pay rent to anyone.
