Filing complaint

Who do we file a complaint with against local housing authority office? Had previously posted about an issue I was having with my local housing authority. I received my voucher at the end of June was told to call and make an appointment with our case worker once we had the landlord paper work ready unfortunately for me I don’t have an assigned case worker anymore because they retired.. so they told us just call and supervisor will handle it. Was calling for about a week in a half and not getting anywhere with them so I showed up to the office and they told me you just have to wait someone will call you so I said okay …it’s been about two weeks and I never received a phone call. Today I called the office and told them that I’ve been waiting for about two weeks for someone to give a call and my voucher is about to expire. They tell me that they suggest I write a letter asking for an extension asap and bring it to the office and then she says that it’s not guaranteed to be approved…like wtf ..they acting like this is my fault!! This shit is ridiculous

Porting Question Regarding Billing

So I've been gathering information to see if I can port from NYS to NC and so far every county I've spoken with are BILLING which means NYS would be responsible for my NC rent. Has anyone ever ported to a place that's billing? If so, did it work out? Was it a complete mess? From what I understand if everyone agreed to terms NC would bill NYS for my rent and they would send NC my portion of the rent. Thank you for your time!

Venmo help!

Hi! I am just wondering if anyone has any experience with section 8 housing recertification in mass. My mom has section 8 and I have recently moved back in with her (will be moving out end of this year) and I have sent documents to section 8 including my Venmo statements. However I have now sent them twice as before the agent wouldn’t accept them as a csv. So I exported them as a PDF like instructed and she is still telling me im doing it wrong. The example she gave me does not look like any Venmo statement I have sent before and every time I download the file it still converts it to an excel and does the same thing she’s telling me not to do. Any help would be appreciated as I’m so close to telling her to shove it. I’m not on section 8, my mother is, and she has asked for my birth certificate, SSN, drivers license, checking and saving and pay stubs, she has asked for my PayPal, cashapp, Venmo and Apple Pay even though two of those do not have any transactions in my checking account and is still demanding statements from accounts that I don’t use. I do not want to mess up my moms housing and I’m usually fine with giving all relevant information but I have never, not once, had to send the amount of verification this agent is asking and I’m unsure if she is even within her rights to ask me.

Strange question!

Hi, I live in a LIHTC apartment. It’s owned and operated by WRH Realty. I have a HCV. I’ve been very happy here. Before I came here I had two nightmarish experiences. One left me basically homeless which was terrifying. I’m over 60 and survive on SSDI. I have no family.

We recently got notice that “insurance reps and investors” would be touring each unit (no problem with that!) to possibly invest.

After my last housing arrangement fell through (our very expensive, college town abruptly decided they could no longer provide funding for the program)

So I’m nervous. These apartments stay full. The town has grown exponentially and rents and housing in general are ridiculous. I’m worried they will change the type of housing to cater to students who can pay much more.

Am I right to be concerned? I have severe anxiety. VERY VERY severe. (I’m in treatment).

Advice ?

Sorry again for posting here .. but I have a question I asked my offices management about there gun policy a couple of months ago .cause I want to be able to carry right ? Cause I tried to use chat gbt to find out if I could or not . Even went online to looked a lot of it up but kept coming to a dead end .

Well I decided to look at my lease but it did not mentioned anything about fire arms or ect cause the lease I got is 4 years old . They never give me a new copy of the lease whenever I renew . So I figured screw it I'll just email them and inquire..

well they never got back to me by email or phone or nothing. Then when I had to go and report my income they bought it up before I was about to head back to my apartment. Telling me fire arms are not allowed on property even with a permit.

People was being nosey Round my car so I eventually parked in it a parking lot that next door to where I live . And that said property is not owed by the housing authority at all.

Well I'm guessing they still feel like I'm hiding a firearm in my vehicle. That why I don't park my car on housing property anymore . I got tired of fighting for a parking spot all the time and in the beginning after I got the car i parked it in the same place . That I went back to parking it again ..

well my question is just because I asked them about there gun policy and now that I'm not parking there anymore . Don't they have to have a good enough reason to get a search warrant to search my vehicle. Even though all I got in my trunk is stuff for my car and clothes and what not . Cause it's not even in my car I decided to have my father keep it . So one day I can actually carry it ..

Dishonesty re housing size?

Just notified that the person renting my house was dishonest re custody of a child to obtain a larger voucher. I looked up the laws in my county and it is pretty straightforward and clear that if you do not have the child more than 50% of the time you do not receive an extra bedroom for them. The custodial parent provided proof of full custody since 2023 with a new order pending the judges signing. I’m wondering how long it typically takes the HA to investigate? It doesn’t seem like there is much to investigate given the custody agreement. I am baffled that a single parent that does not work would jeopardize their housing assistance voucher by committing fraud this way?! I assume the HA will terminate her voucher as opposed to downsizing her voucher due to the willful ongoing dishonesty on her part?? What does she plan to do if the HA demands repayment? How does she expect to ever pay for a place to live again? Do the ladies in our local office that helped her and advocated for her get upset about this type of thing?

ETA: I AM NOT GETTING INVOLVED, HA has the paperwork and whatever they find they find. I was notified as a courtesy bc they knew my payments may ultimately be affected and didn’t want me to be caught off guard.

Questions about pets.

Let me preface that I’m just trying to understand. It is a unique situation because the property is actually owned by the housing authority. However the rest of the community are privately owned homes. I come in peace. I’m simply trying to understand.

I know that people have to follow the rules and the lease. Im just trying to figure out why this lady did not want to get her cats microchipped, because she kept leaving them outside. Both male cats were not neutered at the time and they were marking and spraying everywhere — in my yard, the neighbor’s yards…

Where the situation started to irritate me aside fron the smell of the cat urine, but when I saw one of the cats sitting on top of my car a few times. I don’t want the cat to scretch up thr paint. I asked the lady to please keep her cats inside or at least leashed where she lives. Plus there are coyotes in the neighborhood that I have told her about and I even sent a screenshot of the neighbor’s yard the coyotes were in.

When I approached her again about another option to get her cats neutered, initially she seemed hesitant. She gave the lady from the rescue a hard time initially. Then she finally agreed, but said she did not want the cats microchipped, which was included.

She has had the cats for over 5 years. I know because the cats have left outside so often. So it just seens weird that she would not want them microchipped. Even the lady at the rescue found it odd. You can’t make someone microchip their pets. Can you have pets living in property owned by the housing authority directly?

I never got recertification paperwork ?

location ma

hey guys, so I have one of the worst housing authorities there is. to put it briefly, they are in a building in the city with no parking, there are no walk ins anymore, and appts are scheduled one month out.

no one answers emails, and phones calls are only a couple hours a day, and you sit on hold even if you call right when they open, for hours, and sometimes never speaking to someone; if you do speak to someone they often either lie or make stuff up, or you wait so long that they are then closed. talking to someone is impossible. I lost my chance to move to a new unit because they never responded and gave me. a new packet for months, so the new place had to move on. im baiscally stuck in my current unit till I get off section 8 cuz they wont do paperwork.

anyway, apparently I had an inspection in may, which I never got a letter for. one day I randomly decided to login into rent cafe portal, which is new for us, we didn't have a online portal up until a year or so ago. I went through everything and saw that it said I no-showed this inspection. I then spent like actually 1-2 weeks just harassing them everyday to talk to someone, it was stressful and took up a lot of time that I dont have, and finally got them to reschedule it and give me a date.

they failed my inspection bc the inspector couldn't tell whether the smoker/carbon monoxide alarms were *10 year guarantee* and my landlord said they were but got new ones. ok cool. they schedule a new inspection and I waited for 8 hours for him to show up never did. I emailed them, no response as always. I check my portal everyday and it just says there was a scheduled inspection but doesnt say it was inspected. I asked them for a new date, no answer.

ive only been on this program for 3 years now, so some of this is still new for me, and I realized I moved in June 2023, and that my last recertification was cleared last June. I was just thinking about it and how I never got paperwork for it. I checked my rent cafe portal and there's nothing no letters sent for a recertification or nothing pending or showing up under recertification. are they waiting to finish the inspection? I emailed a caseworker who sometimes responds, so ill she what she says. but idk if I should be worried. im really sick of this HA and trying to finish my degree and get off section 8 ASAP because I find this all frustrating, and causes me a lot of stress and anxiety, knowing I could lose my voucher at someone else's fault. has anyone dealt with this before? also something really weird to me is my upstairs neighbor also on section 8 living there for over 3 years now and never got inspected outside of her original one, yet ive been inspected every year.

Need help, too many wrong answers online, Will SSI Backpay (seperate lump sums) effect my S8?

Too many places say don’t report it.

Places say report everything

Places say only monthly income counts for S8

I just got my letter and I’ve got about 40k 30k after attorney in Backpay.

If I could get an official answer from an actual worker this would be great

Background check

I am new to the sub, so please do not crucify me if this is a ubiquitous inquiry that's been covered 1 million times I don't have time to read through all the historical posts.
. I live in New Hampshire and waited a year to move up the list and yesterday I had my orientation and signed all the paperwork. The representative explained the process to get the voucher and said there would be a background check and I'm wondering what types of crimes i.e. can a DUI exclude you from getting the voucher?

Disabled and Income Changes

I am disabled and currently not working. I will still trying to find employment that fits my capabilities despite my difficulties. I am not on SSDI/SSI. I have had jobs in the past and I ended up quitting due to my disabilities. Does anyone know how soon PHA required tenants on section 8 to pay their portion after they report their changes in income? I heard that they will give those with disability a grace period. If that’s true, do you know how many months? Thank you for the info.

So confused at the moment

I went to my local housing authority on 8-12-2026 and gave them my current information like I have to do yearly. Then less than 48 hours later the online portal said I had to recertify when I just did that already in person. So now I don't have any idea of what's going on

Why does it seem like soooo many people are struggling right now 2026

It’s like everyone around me or even influencers I see on social media or random people I meet at work or in stores are all complaining about how hard life is to keep up with bills and having to work multiple jobs just to still barely make it. I want actual opinions and yes I know people have always struggled but it seems like it’s going on more than ever now. Like even people I’ve seen doing exceptionally well in life are complaining about struggling 😭😭 I literally have to work every single day of the week just to make bill money it’s to the point I have to apply to low income because things are getting extremely tight

Tenant portion increasing from 30% to 40%

I’m in Southern California and I’ve been sent an increase notice letter in spring sometime with effective date of sometime in fall. Long story short, my tenant portion is increasing by 36% effective October 1st. From $1900 something to $2600. I bring home $4800. Is anyone experiencing this?? What resources are you using to get help. There’s no way I’ll be able to afford this and i just signed a new lease prior to this notification. I feel there’s not enough people talking about this, and sd housing commission hasn’t even changed the calculation information on their website. Basically I feel as if this is some type of pilot program that’s not being enforced on everyone with a voucher. Is anyone going through this, and what are you doing about it? Heeelllp lol

If my sister were to start to evict me, would I be moved up the list?

state: MA

Just a thought I've been having because it seems like my sister doesn't want me at her place for much longer and because I currently have stable living, I'm at the bottom of the list.

I'm low income (receiving minimal EBT benefits and Medicaid), only need one bedroom because it's just me.

she wouldn't be evicting me for non payment of rent, I pay her weekly a total that adds up to what she wants monthly. I'm pretty sure my city's waiting list is closed anyway but I just need to get this to people who might be able to answer so I have one less stress.
