On the state of the job market

Took me 15 months to get a job. I was burnt out after a temporary contract so sat on my arse for three months but applied with detailed cover letters in my industry.

And then after multiple rounds with a company in my industry (very well regarded, globally) - my industry is ‘prestigious’ despite the poor wages.

I got the job. With an inflated title and slightly higher base salary.

I had been applying since last April aggressively, had my screening in June and sat multiple rounds for different roles at the same company.

But during that time I was also applying to things that I was either wildly overqualified for or roles that didn’t fit my profile- I interviewed for a few and didn’t get them despite my interview technique being really good.

Like it’s so hard right now. And I’m happy that I landed a ‘proper’ job as my father in law calls it- a permanent role at a global company. I guess it’s due to the security of it.

Still feel a bit miffed about the low ball salary when I know if I had the confidence I could’ve pushed for more.

Btw I live in London so your ymmv
