Finally got my kiddo into coin collecting
After 12 years, the kiddo is now showing interest in collecting coins. I started my collection when I was about his age, got really into it in high school, then on and off for the next 30 years depending on life. His interest has gotten my interest back, and I paged about 200 coins recently that I have had in flips in a box for about 10 years.
Ours are both foreign coin collections, regular pocket-change type coins (not rare/valuable) which are fairly easy and cheap to get. I like the huge variety of coins you see throughout the world and across the years - designs, shapes, sizes, colors, etc.
Because I've been collecting for a long time, he's working off of my spares right now (which is a lot- he has 300-400 coins so far). But I have an eBay 5-pound bag on the way to surprise him with.
I know that his interest probably won't last - at this age and with his personality, things come and go like the seasons - but for now it's something we can connect with and he's starting something that he can keep with him the rest of his life.
