Hey folks. Several People Are Typing is a record I was keeping of the Homestuck Discord and larger Homestuck fandom for nine years, which is kind of ridiculous the more I think about it. Some of you who were around back in the day may remember I "ended" this back in 2019 for some reason (I though I had said all I wanted about it I guess, which definitely proved untrue).
The website has changed significantly over the years, especially late last year. It now looks significantly better (could still use a lot of improvement, but I'm not exactly a webdev) with stuff like primitive sidebar navigation and a light/dark mode that corresponds with your computer's native settings. There's also new resources like the text dump for easy searching of everything, and an emote archive.
I risk getting sucked back into it somehow; even just writing this makes me think I should add this subreddit's emotes to the archive too. No wonder it was so hard to end this last time.
Anyway, the HSD was the main focus, and since that was taken down I think it's fitting to actually close the record. It's likely I'll continue writing about Makin's new Discord server in a more limited capacity, but SPAT is pretty much done. I have a last entry saying all this in my usual long-winded fashion, as well as an epitaph of sorts which is more personal.
It's hard to believe I spent almost nine years on this project. I've met a lot of friends and interesting people through the HSD, and I'm glad I had the forethought to write it all down as it was happening--my memory is just so awful on its own, so I'm glad there's a record of all this floating around somewhere.
And strictly speaking, I just can't rip myself away from it entirely: if you (yes, you) want to contribute something directly to it yourself, last autumn I opened up a new section of the website called Voces Populi which I am rather fond of.
Voces Populi is intended to be a direct window into the spirit of the fandom more generally. There are already almost 40 pieces of writing submitted by people detailing various things about the Homestuck fandom important to them (or not. One person literally just wrote "play xenoblade" if that's more your speed). There is a submission form so you can contribute your own writing too! Entries can be as short or as long (within reason) as you want, I just want to cast as wide a net as possible. I will continue to update that part of the website if new submissions roll in.
Hope to see some of you in the new Discord server. Thanks to anyone who's read my stuff over the years, I hope it's been of some use!
