subungual squamous cell carcinoma in my dog

Our dog recently had a toe amputation and the histopathology came back as subungual squamous cell carcinoma. The removal was clean and there was lots of unaffected tissue and bone. Our surgeon is recommending we do a lymph node removal to ensure it hasn’t spread there. The rescue told us she was only 3 but we are thinking she is older now.

Does anyone have experience with this? They can test the lymph node but if there are only a few cells it could be inconclusive, and could spread before we really know.

We don’t want to put our pup through another surgery (she’s had a tough life already)! But also want as many years with her as we can get.
