Things like dancing, singing, acting—these are all wonderful talents and have been rightly celebrated for years. And talent shows have been a popular school-age venue to display them.

The problem, is that the implication behind calling it a "talent show" is, "If you're not in the show, you have no talent," and that completely alienates students whose talents are not strictly performative. Say you have a student painter or sculptor—their talents can't be celebrated because their talents don't really involve any kind of performace. So, they're left in the dust to hope the school puts on an art show or something. But even then, talent shows always seemed far more popular with the student body than art shows.

It all just seems very biased against non-performative talents, and that makes me sad
