Can we all take a moment to discuss how Sussex.news have handled the recent tragedy, please
The above article was posted by Sussex.news -
The police have explicitly asked for people to not speculate, yet their article says:
>Unconfirmed reports suggest the women may have been in their late teens or early 20s. It is also understood they were dressed in “going-out clothes”, with handbags and a coat reportedly found on the beach nearby.
>Sources have indicated the trio may have attended a nightclub event in the city hours before the incident.
"Unconfirmed" - That's speculation.
Today there is a new article
Sussex police said
This is a sensitive investigation that includes a number of hypotheses, and it would not be appropriate to speculate as we to continue to gather evidence.
I have commented on both articles saying that their reporting is disgusting, and that they are speculating. Both comments were removed by moderators and never made public.
How do my fellow Brightonians feel about this reporting?
Edit: I'm not going to reply to individual comments.
I asked how you feel about the reporting, not for you to complain about how I feel.
For those of you saying it's the police saying they, themselves, will not speculate - see their statement below.
> I would ask for people’s patience while we conduct these enquiries and to avoid speculation while this is ongoing.
