Brighton Pier 😍

Seen at a local estate agents. Thought you guys would appreciate this amazing photo of the Pier with all the landmarks included. /s

Seriously though WHY generate a dumb convoluted AI image when many many thousands of images of the Pier are available??

Preston Road overflowing bins

As you can see in the photos the bins on Preston Road up to Preston park are all overflowing and there's shite absolutely everywhere, no one has anywhere to put the rubbish so it's just getting worse every day, it's been like this for at least a fortnight.... Obviously the seagulls and foxes are getting into it all so it just keeps getting strewn everywhere and torn up.

I've made a complaint through the council's web form twice now and I've still had nothing back from them, what the hell can I do now for them to come and get rid of it all?? Surely I'm not the only one to have complained

They've obviously missed several bin collections by now - I did see something about the refuse collectors not working in the heat but there have been plenty of cooler days so what's going on??

Need help finding a vintage shop from our June trip

Hi everyone,

my girlfriend and I visited Brighton during our England trip in June, and we stumbled across an amazing second-hand/vintage shop somewhere around Kensington Gardens. She absolutely fell in love with a ring there, and I’d really like to surprise her by buying it as an engagement ring.

Unfortunately, I can’t remember the name of the shop.

What I do remember is:

  • It sold a mix of vintage furniture, clothing, jewellery and all kinds of interesting second-hand items.
  • The entrance wasn’t directly on Kensington Gardens but in a small side street nearby.
  • You entered through an open gate/courtyard and then went down a ramp into the shop.
  • Along that ramp there were glass display cases with jewellery, including the ring she loved.

We’re from Germany, so if I can figure out which shop it was, I’d love to try calling them to see if the ring is still there and whether they’d be willing to sell and ship it.

Does this description ring a bell for anyone? I’d be incredibly grateful for any ideas!

Thank you so much!

Commercial building noise Ona Sunday (England)

Hi all. First time here. The nursery behind our house has hired contractors who are demolishing some structures in their garden. The builders have started again at 8am today after starting yesterday at 7.
are they legally allowed to do this? The noise is significant and we have been woken up and now need to close windows to block what we can out.
Brighton councils (where we live) website doesn’t have too much info around this.

Thanks for any help!

Flags in Lancing

Hi everyone, I live in Lancing to the West of Brighton. Sadly in the last election reform won, they've filled the main streets with England flags on EVERY lamppost. They say its for the football but it is pretty obvious its not.

They are really high up and I don't know what to do but im extremely ashamed of my village. I can't imagine how it feels to be an immigrant or a person of colour here.

Any ideas of how to fight this?

Thankyou :)

Is the seafront a public highway?

Ok so I don’t like being a moaning bitch. But I’m about to be a moaning bitch!

So yesterday I had a wander along the seafront and noticed that Brighton Music Hall had blocked the walkway with locked fencing. Are they legally allowed to do this? And why?

As a caveat I used to work in this place back when it was called the Gemini. Every night we had to remove all the benches and stack them in storage. As the council wouldn’t let them have permanent seats out front as it was a public way.

So I’m not saying the progress of what they’ve built isn’t somewhat of an improvement. But all the fencing on the seafront is starting to look ugly and block access.

I dunno what do we think about this?

Brighton Cab Drivers Ripping-off Passengers

Coming back from London last night I picked up a cab home from the station. It was late, so I expected a late (midnight-6am) surcharge.

Looking what was on the meter before the guy had even pulled away though, the driver had slapped the 4-8 passenger surcharge on (I was alone), which is a few quid more than the single passenger.

I should have been more aware, but it was late & I was sleepy so didn’t argue at the time.

Question: as I don’t take cabs often, how common is this scam in town these days?

Is a golfing & trail running vacation without a car easy in Brighton?

We’re looking to spend a couple weeks in Brighton. We would rather not have a rental car as we like to be able to walk around a city. However, my husband wants to play golf at several different courses (he would take Uber) and I’m a runner that would love to get into the countryside. What would be an idea neighborhood to base ourselves (in an Airbnb) with easy access?

Also, my husband would like to get hooked up with a social golf society that plays a variety of courses if anyone can recommend one. And I would like to take part in a park run you recommend. (We don’t have them in the U.S. so it will be a new experience for me.)

Thanks!!

A place/office with high speed upload

Hi, I need to back up my 2TB disk to the cloud. Is there an open office I can use to upload those files without disrupting anyone else’s internet connection? I can pay daily fee if it solves my problem.

my home internet is slow (20Mbps upload)

Thanks

Phone service

I know Brighton sucks during silly season, especially on weekends but I’ve noticed O2 has become very bad for signal, which gets me in trouble with my wife using WhatsApp saying I’ll be home late. Even streaming bbc radio has to buffer. Is it me? O2? Or just Brighton?
Any advice or others in the same situation?

Suggestions for a 40th birthday in Brighton

Hey, my twin and I will be meeting a few friends to celebrate our 40th in Brighton in August. Can anyone suggest fun afternoon activities? Likely to be heading back early evening. Looking for things like bottomless brunches, champagne afternoon teas, and just fun games and activities (escape room type things but not necessarily that). We're a group of girls, and none of us are massive drinkers. We'll all be getting the train in. Thank you!

Car boot sale

Hi everyone! 👋
I’m currently travelling through Brighton and staying near the city centre. I’d love to check out a car boot sale tomorrow, and I’m happy to travel a little if it’s worth it.
Any recommendations? Bonus points if it’s good for vintage clothes, antiques, or unique finds. Thanks!

Good places to paddleboard in the Brighton/ Sussex area?

Looking for recommendations some nice, flat, non tidal paddleboarding spots. The sea is too much hassle sometimes with the tide and the waves!
