My smart feeder is basically a high tech pinata at this point

i spent way too much time researching the perfect automated feeder because my orange cat thinks 4 am is the ideal time for a breakfast buffet . i went with a model that had decent reviews and a supposedly secure locking lid because he is a menace when he is hungry . it worked for about two weeks until he realized that the machine has a single point of failure and its not the software .

instead of trying to pry the lid off like a normal animal he figured out that if he pushes the entire unit off the kitchen counter the impact forces the lid to pop just enough for some kibble to spill out . i came out yesterday morning to find the feeder face down on the tiles and him just casually vacuuming up the results . i thought okay i will outsmart him and i heavy duty velcroed the base to the counter . problem solved right .

wrong . he spent the next night figured out that he can just climb the pantry shelves and drop a heavy glass jar of flour right onto the feeder . the sheer kinetic energy did the trick and the lid basically exploded . now i have a broken sixty dollar feeder a kitchen covered in flour and a cat who looks at me like i am the stupidest person in the apartment .

the worst part is that i actually tried to build a little wooden cage for the new unit i bought but i realized i am basically building a feline escape room at this point . he is not even doing it because he is starving he is just obsessed with the mechanics of it . i am currently sitting at my desk watching him stare at the new setup with a look of pure calculation . it is a losing battle .
