Lack of Magic is a Huge Bonus for Asta (and Not Because of Anti Magic)

If you lose your sense of sight, your other sense will get stronger because your brain will start to rewire itself to rely on them more

For this same reason, we can make the assumption that Asta's Ki sensing is stronger since he cannot sense mana. And this seems to be the case as Yami says asta is a freak for learning Ki mid battle. He also learns zetten just by having it explained to him, apparently master's it within a week, and has such strong ki sensing that he is articulating charlotte's emotions to Yami

Not a stretch by any means to say Asta is at least one of the strongest ki users if not the strongest in the series

Like wise, Asta is pretty much invisible to anyone except Ki users

I firmly believe that no magic, no anti magic asta would still be captain tier as is speed, power, ki, zetten, and invisibility make him an absolute threat

Explaining Why There Are 4 Sagas, Not 3

OVERVIEW

Each Saga has 4 distinct roles; the twin soul, the dark triad, the lancer, and the raid boss, and this pattern first takes place in chapters 1-80, this means the elf saga is only 130 chapters (81-212)which makes it very comparable to the 120 chapters of the Spade saga, and makes the final saga very comparable in size to the first (if we count the increased chapter size on 20 or so chapters, its closer to 70 chapters) Recontextualizing the series this way also changes the series from ‘Rushing’ into ‘Accelerating’ covering much more ground in the same amount of time

TWIN SOUL

Mars, William, Yuno, Julius

Twin souls 1 and 3 activate their 2nd attribute after suffering a defeat and use it to rebound into round 2

Twin souls 2 and 4 are introduced as Leaders and Heroic characters but reveal themselves to be villains

Twins 1 and 3 are a single Identity welding 2 types of magic, while Twins 2 and 4 are a split identity where the darker takes over and uses their own magic

DARK TRIAD

Rades/Valtos/Sally, Patri/Rhya/Fana, Dante/Zenon/Vanica, Morris/Morgen/Acier

Each part has a Male/Male/Female dark triad representative of the themes of their part

Part 1 is about discrimination and therefore the dark triad are examples of it. Rades (spiritual) Valdosta (physical) and Sally (mental) are all discriminated against because of traits they cannot change leading them down a dark path to the Midnight Sun

Part 2 is about the sins of the past and how old blood can bar the way of progress

Patri represents despair (evident by his grimoire turning black) Rhya represents betrayal, and Fana represents hatred

Part 3 is about the darkness that is present in all humans, thus it has a large focus on devils supplementing human weakness with absolute power. As long as there are humans capable of evil, there will be humans willing to make deals with devils.

The Dark triad here represents the actual dark triad in philosophy, Narcissism (Dante) Psychopathy (Zenon) and Machiavellianism (Vanica)

Part 4 represents the tragic human nature of wanting perfection and the willingness to sacrifice everything for it. Humans will optimize the joy out of anything if given the chance, and the dark triad here represents how sterile perfection would make people

Morris is a perfect leader, Morgen a perfect brother/friend/comrade, and Acier a perfect parent.  Each is so twisted that they disgust and frighten the people they should relate to

LANCER

Patri, Licht, Morris, Adramalech

The lancer is a character that exists below the raid boss in power and above the dark triad in narrative impact

The lancers in parts 1 and 3 become members of the parts 2 and 4 dark triad with patri becoming despair, and Morris becoming an archangel

The lancers of parts 2 and 4 are introduced as antagonists and later reveal themselves as heroes (a contrast to the twin souls in these parts that start as heroes and become villains) with licht helping against zagred and Adramalech helping against Morgen

RAID BOSS

Vetto, Zagred, Lucifero, Lucius

Each raid boss introduces a shift in the narrative of the story

Vetto changes the context of the Midnight sun from a terrorist organization into a full blown cult with access to extreme and evil magic. Zagred shows us devils and explains a lot of lore and world building. Lucifero shifts from “raid boss is far stronger than everyone else” and into “the final boss has meticulously planned and calculated” meaning the classic anime tropes won't cut it anymore as this is no longer a power struggle. Lucius lives up to this shift by being defeated from the inside by his own stolen power rather than losing to the outside by new power ups, friendships and transformations as is the standard

Raid bosses 1 and 3 are both melee brawlers where bosses 2 and 4 are both grab-bag super mages with endless possibilities

Why the 4 Nations are Named After Card Suits!

ANSWER

The reason the 4 nations are named after card suits is in reference to the Minor Arcana in Tarot which includes cards like the 6 of swords, 5 of cups, 10 of coins, and 2 or wands. Each of these tarot card suits have a corresponding 'Standard Suit'

Swords=Spade

Cups=Heart

Coins=Diamond

Wands=Clover/Clubs (clover is the French name for the clubs suit)

So how do we know this is true? Well 2 major themes of Black Clover are 'You can't judge a book by its cover' which hints at deeper meanings, and that Magic and Fate are synonymous, so its easy to assume 'Under the surface, there will be some reference to fate based magic'

But this is a weak explanation, so we will look at the other traits associated with each suit, namely Gender and Element

Spade=Masculine and Wind, so the wind spirit can only belong to a Male from the Spade Kingdom

Diamond=Feminine and Earth

Heart=Feminine and Water

and Clover=Masculine and Fire, so why does Elf possessed Fana have Salamander?

In magic, substitutions and composites are valid (Like Will Turner's blood being able to break the Curse in Pirates of the Caribbean in place of his father's blood, since he has his father's blood) Elf possessed Fna has a fire soul, part of a make soul since human Fana is mixed with mars, and a soul from clover. As soon as the possession is broken, human Fana no longer has a soul from clover and loses salamander. Likewise, once revived, elf fana no longer has a male soul, so she also doesn't qualify. This also explains why Mereoleona doesn't get salamander since she is not male

This then Proves that Yuno being from spade was shown as early as chapter 20 (he also stopped time the 1st time he used Sylph's Breath v Mars)

WHY MAKE THS POST?
I've noticed a lot of discussion about Black Clover calls it very tropey and surface level....then doesn't acknowledge how much of the info just goes waaaaay over the head of the average reader (probably some correlation there). Because part 1 of Black Clover is very standard (chapter1-80) many people assume they can just passively consume the series, then when the training wheels come off, they start complaining about rushing and ass pulls

In a recent post, I mentioned that the name Dark Triad was a reference to Narcissism (Dante), Psychopathy (Zenon), and Machiavellianism (Vanica) and was surprised to see how almost no one knew about this was a real world term and just thought it was a cringey villain name

So I'm going to start making posts explaining other concepts in BC that probably go under the radar with the hopes of getting people smarter than myself to give the series a deep dive. The more people that honestly look into the series rather than just glancing at the pictures, the more we can all appreciate new takes, theories, and interpretations

Tabata often said his main influences were Yuyu hakusho, Dragon ball, Bleach, and Slam Dunk

Slam dunk is cool, but it always stuck out as weird to me

Until i started to think of BC as a sports anime and alot of things fell into places

Character like Fraudgoleon and William Fraudulence become expert coaches as opposed to star players. Characters like finral aren't scoring points, they are passing like crazy and creating impossible openings

Fucking Asta giving anti magic to other characters and Yuno using neverland to boost everyone is like watching your Ace become an expert setter, and then start setting to eachother

One of my favorite things in sports anime is seeing who the captain is on each team. Its not always the highest scorer. Maybe its a catcher, a line backer, a setter, a blocker, or just someone that keeps the team from collapsing under pressure

From this perspective, characters like Gueldre being a captains makes a ton of sense

The golden dawn becomes alot cooler because most of their members are multi talented. Good at offense, defense, information gathering, strategizing etc. A team that needs no positions, no captains, no gameplans, just simply strong at everything, then they have the strongest coach in the series. They would be titanic in any sports anime

Magan v Dante becomes so huge when you realize this a bench warmer coming in because everyone else is injured, but he has been watching the other teams ace all game and has a strategy. Asta and Luck showing up at the end (watching from the stands) as the worst player on the team repeatedly walls out the star player that gave their whole team trouble is insane

Zenon hit 12 home runs and pitched a perfect game against the diamond kingdom, we don't need to see that happen to understand how much of a power house zenon is

Just told her the villains were called the Dark triad and she asked "Oh cool, so which one is she?" while watching vanica fight

"Thats vanica, she has blood magic and her devil has curse magic"

"No, is she psychopathy, narcissism, or Machiavellianism?"

"what do you mean?

"The dark triad is a group of the worst human traits, that and a god complex, but people with a god complex are usually more delusional that dangerous. So is she pyschopath, narcissist, or Machiavellian?"

"I guess Machiavellian, she is big on using curses to manipulate people. Dante is definitely narcissism, and zenon is pretty good for psychopath."

"What are their devils names?"

"Lucifer/Gravity, Beelzebub/Space, Megicula/Curses"

"Isn't that the one from the other one?"

"No thats melascula (I watched 7deadly sins the week before)"

"Why use 2 real devils and a fake devil, then not include time in the trio? Are there other devil mages?"

"Yeah, the main character has a devil"

"Are there any time mages?"

".....yeah"

At this point lolopechka was talking about the qliphoth

"Is that guy japanese 'Yami Sukehiro' is a japanese name"

"Yea he's from like, magic japan"

"isn't it a big coincidence that he is in magic europe right when the bad guys need him to be? Does he know the other guy, or is he also from a different country that got brought here?"

"They have the same adoptive dad"

"Does he have time magic?"
