I've seen the question about how to handle shaky or unsteady hands and soldering, I've replied sometimes and described this setup. But I don't recall ever posting a picture.
The wooden blocks give me a place to rest the sides of my hands while working, so they're braced about as close to the work piece as they can be.
Additionally, and this is actually a huge boon, by switching to a C210 and C245 pattern iron the distance from grip to the work piece is also reduced. As compared to a Hakko FX600 type soldering iron. This reduces the effect that shaky hands have on the position of the soldering iron tip.
It also doesn't help that I have enormous hands, XXL or XXXL depending on the glove maker. This makes working with small components and fine wires near impossible. Being well braced with supporting fixtures and using good tweezers is the difference between a completed project and a failed project.
