I’ve always been a lover of books, but I’ve never once cried to a book. The one about a man fighting monsters in his underwear with his talking cat finally did it.
Donut’s speech to Beatrice was absolutely heartbreaking. Ever since the first book I was positive she had to still be alive with how much they kept reiterating that she was definitely dead, and I’ve been so eagerly anticipating the reunion since the last epilogue. I don’t exactly know how I was picturing itwas going to go down, but I did not expect that from Donut. I really felt that big sense of pride in her that Carl felt. It has been amazing to me since I started reading how much this story has gripped me emotionally.
I will say I felt a little disappointed that we got basically nothing out of her at all. I wanted to hear how much Donut’s words hopefully hurt her. Honestly it seemed like she barely was even processing that this really was her cat. I guess as Donut said herself though Beatrice getting no chance to react was the point. I’d like at least one shift back to her perspective still, but I’m assuming this was pretty much the end of that little story arc.
