I'm in a bit of a Anachrony dilemma.
I already played the base game and like it very much. The modular expansions (all of them) seem really cool, but make it very hard to make decissions what to buy or what not. To be fair, I'll probably play this 3-4 times a year and a lot with at least 1 new player.
I was looking at the infinity box first. I found some interesting offers, but just missed out on them the past month. Also the availability is so low that is hard to find one for a reasonable price. On top of that, I'm pretty sure I'll never play with 50% of the addons included, so I was asking myself, do I really need this, probably not.
So what expansions look interesting and what not?
- Classic Expansion:
- Doomsday: not well regarded and doesn't seem to enhance the game enough
- Pioneers: don't like the dice push your luck
- Guardian council: looks interesting
- Future Imperfect
- Hypersync: Looks cool
- Quantum Loops: Looks interesting, but many say only after a couple of plays. Again this give you extra actions and fun "new" stuff to do, but
- Intrigues Council: Alternate end game scoring is "fine". Looks more interesting when everyone is on the same level and played the game many times already, which won't be a lot of times.
Fractures of Time:
- All of it: only for experienced players, and Increases complexity by a lot it seems?
I've read through about 20 bgg and reddit posts, tried to make my own overview, but I have not enough experience or find enough information to really make a conclusion like I do with other games. And with everything being modular, it's a lot more difficult.
Ok Two questions:
- At first glance, classic offers Guardian council, Future Imperfect offers Hypersync. Am I missing something about the other modules? If yes, what? And if not, do I buy the expansions which include 3 modules, to only use 1. Or is the base game good enough for 10-20 plays without the modules and it won't become stale?
- Do I get Fractures or not? Is the solo play fine, good, or really great? Again, will the base game stand for 10-20 plays and more without fractures and will this expansions turn off "casual games" that enjoy the Base game?
Temporary Conclusion:
The way I see it now is that I have a chance to buy Anachrony EE + Fractures + Premium resources 2nd hand for a good price. I will order the Exosuits online and that is it. No more expansions. Or am I missing out if I do that?
