Really weird payment issue (Denmark-specific), anyone else have this?
It's a longshot, but I figured I'd try to ask here.. and before anyone asks: yes, I've opened a ticket.
I recently moved to Denmark from Germany, and I play Lotro through Steam. When I moved and got a Danish bank account, I updated my Steam store location to Denmark (since this is now where I live and the Danish bank card is how I pay for stuff). The Steam store's default currency for Denmark is Euros (even though Denmark has its own currency) for whatever reason, and they don't offer a DKK option. Straightforward enough and I have no issues buying Steam games, etc.
The problem comes up when I want to buy LP for Lotro. The Lotro store IS in DKK, and I cannot make any purchases due to an error code. I've opened a ticket, and per Standing Stone support, the reason is that my Steam wallet and Lotro store are using different currencies.
So here I am thinking to myself: surely there must be a way for Danish players who play through Steam to spend money on the Lotro store, since all of them will have the exact same scenario as me (Steam Wallet in Euro, Lotro store in DKK)... right?
Alternatively: does anyone know what happens if I download the client outside of Steam, log in with my Standing Stone account via the launcher, and then try to buy something on the Lotro store? Will it detect that my account is linked to a Steam account and that I need to install the Steam client to make any purchases, or will it allow me to use a non-Steam Wallet payment source?
Edit: god sometimes I miss the old days when you could just buy a time/in-game currency card for this game at an actual brick and mortar store.
Edit2: thanks to everyone for the tips. In case anyone in the future stumbles upon this post and has the same problem: install the game via the downloadable launcher and not from Steam, then make your purchase in-game with a non-Steam payment source. And if you're like me and added an extra layer of complexity on top of it (playing on Linux): I installed the installer via Lutris and ran it with GE-Proton (latest) and it kept crashing whenever I tried to enter payment information. Add the LotroLauncher.exe file (from the directory Lutris installed the game to) to your Steam as a non-Steam game, right-click, go to "Compatibility" and use Proton Experimental instead. Then log in, make your purchase, bing bang boom all good. What a completely avoidable hassle in TYOOL 2026 but that's where we are these days.
