Kyoko was really popular even before animation

Just found Kyoko was ranked 3 year Top1 and 3 times in a row forfemale heroine department with dominant points on thisvery old magazine.

Also I found some magazine that has Kyoko's analyse as well, might upload later on this sub.

So Kyoko is actually supposed to be exceptionally beautiful?

I always knew Kyoko was supposed to be pretty, but I just found this on Shogakukan’s official introduction page for Maison Ikkoku, where she’s described as:

「それがとびっきりの美人だった」

I initially thought it just meant “she was beautiful,” but とびっきりの美人 seems quite a bit stronger — more like “an exceptionally beautiful woman” or “a real standout beauty.”

I knew Kikyo from Inuyasha is explicitly described as 美人 in the setting books, but I didn’t realize Kyoko was also officially described that way, and apparently with even stronger wording.

Did Rumiko draw this?

Actually not that surprised. I can also somewhat understand why Western readers and Japanese readers tend to view Sesshomaru and Rin so differently. I think the main reason is that the Inuyasha Wideban bonuses
(CD drama) were released almost exclusively in Japan, so many overseas fans were never exposed to them.

The Sesshomaru and Rin drama CD supervised by Rumiko Takahashi more or less hinted at the future direction of their relationship and where the characters were ultimately headed.

Considering that Sesshomaru and Rin are the most popular Rumiko Takahashi pairing in Japan (based on Pixiv, Suruga-ya, and Toranoana), I think there’s a good chance that if she drew this illustration.
