Speed Twin 900, 1200 or 1200 RS

The motorcycle itch has hit again after several years without a bike. Latest experience from track is from 2022 and the bike underneath was a ZX-10RR (2019). I sold it after that summer. It was an unregistered track pure machine +200 hp from wheel. I also did some track riding with an R6, but sold that already in 2021.

On the street I’ve owned a 675 Street Triple, an Aprilia Tuono and a BMW R 1200 R. The Street Triple was a great road bike, the Tuono was complete overkill, and the BMW was honestly boring as hell. The BMW was the latest one and I think I sold it in 2022.

Now I’m seriously tempted by Triumph’s retro sport bikes for relaxed cruising in good weather. Possibly something to keep for several years. I’m considering buying new, since there aren’t many used ones available. Question and opinions wanted:

  • Speed Twin 900? Relaxed, torquey comfort bike. But is it maybe a bit too tame, even though I’m definitely not looking for wrist-stretching performance anymore? (Price around €15k)
  • Speed Twin 1200 or 1200 RS? About 50% more punch in the engine, especially torque. The RS has the fancier suspension, though probably unnecessary for street use. The quickshifter and auto-blipper also suit a more aggressive riding style than what I’m after these days. (€18–20k)

Prices in Finland including (way too much) tax.

Insurance prices don’t seem dramatically different (for a middle-aged guy anyway). Hard to predict depreciation, but maybe the 1200 RS is a bit more special and could hold its value better.
