Why is the variance formula often written like this ?
Var(X) = E(X^2)-(E(X))^2
And not simply :
Var(X) = E(X^2)-E(X)^2

I'm writting an oral essay for school, while I like the stylistic choice of "society machinery", I'm not sure it sounds okay in English.
For you does it sounds completely natural, like a interesting stylistic choice or simply weird ?
I know how to demonstrate it if i really need but it takes time.
If anyone has a quick and easy way to get the formulas right every time i would greatly appreciate it !
