I’ve been consistently lifting 5 days a week for about 3 months, but I feel like my strength has barely improved.
I’m still using roughly the same weights on a lot of my exercises, and whenever I try to add weight, my reps drop hard. I know 3 months isn’t a long time, but I feel like I should be progressing more than I am.
Current stats:
6’2”
285 lbs
~37% body fat
Currently cutting/trying to lose fat
Training 5x per week
Testosterone: 150 mg/week
I’m definitely still a beginner and I feel weak for my size. I’m not expecting to be throwing around crazy weight, but I want to make sure I’m actually training in a way that lets me progressively overload instead of spinning my wheels.
For example, should I:
Keep the same weight until I can hit the top of my rep range on every set, then increase?
Add smaller amounts of weight more frequently?
Train closer to failure?
Rest longer between sets?
Reduce my overall training volume?
Focus more on compound movements?
Change anything while I’m in a calorie deficit?
For those of you who were weak when you started, what actually helped you start consistently adding reps and weight to the bar/machines?
Any advice on programming or progressive overload would be appreciated.
EDIT
My diet mainly consists of overnight oats and lean beef with rice. I try to stay in a 1600-1700 calorie deficit. Also just started fasting 16/8
