I am moving to NYC from Illinois for work. I will not have a car or be driving in NYC. Should I get a NY ID? Can I register to vote without a NY id? What are the pros and cons of switching state ID?

Edit: the only reason I am hesitant is because I don’t know how long I will be living there.
