FoodTrucksMove.com has reached 1.0 and is live

153 trucks available to browse, of which 6 truck operators have claimed. I want to pump this number up, but even with so few trucks claimed, there is value to be had - Use the Bucket List feature to create a list of food trucks you want to visit. Use the Crave Wizard to find the meal you're craving right now, and within your specified radius.

Food trucks that have not been claimed but have a schedule are listed - then visit the food truck's social media page to verify the truck's location and head out.

Food trucks that have been claimed will indicate that the food truck operator has personally checked in a their location, and don't need to be validated.

Community spotting is implemented as well - see a food truck nearby? Visit that truck's profile and click "I see this truck right now", your sighting will appear on the map as a community sighting.

About four months of my free time was spend creating this app. I and my wife are using it as we speak to located a July 4th food truck to visit.

Input and feedback is welcome - I find it unlikely that I've configured everything perfectly, or that all the features users would want are implemented here, so hit up the contact form or submit a message to the admin from withing you account to speak your mind.

Food trucks app is back up for a soft launch test

Hey everyone,

Quick update for those who saw my previous posts about the food truck app. Because I'm running this on a non-existent budget, I had to switch the site off to prevent going over my hosting and API usage limits.

Now that the limits have reset, I'm started it back up to test a handful of new features based on input from the previous post:

Browser Detection: It now uses basic location data from your browser to pull up the local area immediately on load. This location data is accurate to within 3-10 miles.

User Profiles: You can log in to save your favorite trucks and, more importantly, set a maximum travel radius so you only see trucks within your driving comfort zone.

Community check-ins: Now logged in users can spot food trucks on the mapp, allowing non-claimed and non-checked in trucks to appear on the map.

I'll be testing more over the next 2-3 weeks, with a hard-launch vaguley scheduled for the 1st-ish of July. I MAY have to switch the site off one more time if I hit the usage limits again.

The Pensacola subreddit's feedback on the previous post was incredibly useful, and I'm hoping more folks are willing to give fedback here.

Thanks!

EDIT: Instead of putting this all in a stale Reddit post, I've written more details about he launch here:

Building a better way to find local food trucks. Humbly looking for beta testers!

I wanted to share a project I've been pouring my heart & soul into. First off, a massive shoutout to the folks who have made noble inroads into tracking local food trucks in the past. Those earlier efforts paved the way and proved how much our community loves supporting independent food trucks.

I’m trying to build on that foundation with FoodTrucksMove.com. It’s a mobile-first web app designed to let food truck operators drop a pin when they park, and let hungry locals find them in real-time without scrolling through a bunch of social media accounts.

To be completely transparent: this is a 100% bootstrap operation with a $0 budget, hosted entirely on free tier services. Depending on how many people visit, we might completely blow past the usage limits, at which point the site'll automatically shut down. That is totally okay, and if we reach those limits I'll take it to mean that I'm onto something.

Because of this, I definitely don't expect everything to work flawlessly right out of the gate. I am opening the QA site for beta testing, and I am humbly asking for your help to jump in and break things so we can fix them before going live.

If you love food trucks: Create a quick test account, test the live map geolocator, and try "favoriting" trucks to see their pins on the map.

If you operate a truck: Everything is free. You can claim your truck, drop live pins, and use the $25 in "fake money" I gifted every account to try out our advertising system.

If you have a few minutes, please check out the full blog post for all the details:

https://qa.foodtrucksmove.com/news/welcome-to-the-foodtrucksmove-com-test-realm

And then go to the QA site to look around:

https://qa.foodtrucksmove.com/

The data you see on the site is "fake" data, with fake images, and don't actually relate to anything in the real world, allowing users to test without real danger of breaking something is real life.

Use the built-in contact/messaging features in the app to report anything that isn't working correctly or features you think are missing.

You can also drop feedback here in the comments.

Thanks!
