Naval Scene, potentially WW2
I lucked out and found this original acrylic painting in a charity shop in the south, Uk, yesterday. From first glance it appears crudely painted no underpainting or layers of brushstrokes, however the construction of the handstretched canvas, archival framing, and the sparse and decisive and confident brushstrokes of the artist suggests it has been painted by someone who knows their apples…and paid to have it framed professionally.
It is confusing me for the £7 I paid! Is it a framed replica or a study of another artists work? A fancy paint by numbers?
Can anyone identify the scene or indeed the composition?
Artists Mark: 2008, N.J.W or M.J.N ???
either way I’m happy with my find, it’s curious and atmospheric and I love naval history, so I’m glad I picked it up for a steal.
Thanks!
