Wired new light and fan switch exactly how they were before but something doesn't seem right.
So I just replaced an old light and fan switch that have a shared hot wire but all of the commons and ground wires don't actually connect to the switches. They were all just tied together with wire caps. This seems rather dangerous but I'm not knowledgeable enough to know if this is the correct way to do it or if it's a fire/electrical hazard waiting to go off.
Should i connect a ground wire to the switches?
Does anything need to be done about the common wires?
I'm capable enough to do the work my self if it's needed, I just don't think the previous home owner had it installed correctly but I want to be sure.
Any help is appreciated.
