20 Month Old Toddler not talking at Daycare

We recently had our first parent-teacher conference at daycare and were surprised to learn that our 20 month old daughter barely talks there, if at all.

At home, she’s a complete chatterbox with a growing vocabulary and is constantly talking, making noise and trying new words. However, she’s very shy around unfamiliar people and tends to cling to mom and dad in new situations.

She’s been attending this daycare for about 6 months, but she’s only been there full-time for the last 2 months.

Has anyone else experienced this with their toddler? Did they eventually come out of their shell, or was there anything you did to help them feel more comfortable and start communicating at daycare?
