Cheap BMW X1, bargain or red flag?

Cheap BMW X1, bargain or red flag?

Looking at this X1. Car looks very clean and the price is noticeably lower than most other F48 X1s I can find.

I rang the seller shortly after the ad went up and asked about service history. He said he’d check it and get back to me. A couple of hours passed with no reply, and in the meantime I noticed he was uploading several other cars under the same private seller account.

I also sent him a text afterwards so he had my number. The only reply I got was basically “call if interested”.

When I rang again later, he said he’s actually selling the X1 for his nephew and that the service history was in the car, but he can’t feckin find it now.

So at the moment I’d have to treat it as 4 previous owners and no documented service history. The car itself is tempting because it’s a 2015 F48 18d auto at this price and mileage, but the seller setup and lack of paperwork are making me cautious.

Would you walk away, or would you still consider it if a full history check came back clean and the car inspected well?

Mercedes E220 CDI facelift owners, would you recommend a 2013 to 2016 model?

Hello everyone, I’m looking for honest opinions on the facelift 2013 to 2016 Mercedes E220 CDI, preferably the coupé, although I’d also consider the saloon.

Long story short, I absolutely love this generation of E-Class. It’s not about the badge, I genuinely think it’s one of the best-looking generations Mercedes ever made. I promised myself I’d buy one once my business reached a certain point, so I’m now seriously considering it.

I’ve owned BMWs, Audis, Volkswagens, Hondas, Mazdas and Opels over the years. Some were reliable, while others were complete headaches, which I’d ideally like to avoid this time. If the general consensus is to stay away, I genuinely will.

I’m passionate about cars and will do endless research, but I’d love to hear from people in Ireland who’ve actually owned one.

From what I’ve read, the E220 diesel engines can be relatively solid when properly maintained, but there are a few things to watch for:

• Rear subframe corrosion
• Timing chain noise, particularly from a cold start
• DPF and EGR issues
• Injector problems on some earlier cars
• Water pump and thermostat issues
• Evidence that the automatic gearbox has been serviced properly

Beyond the obvious checks like full service history, NCT history, matching mileage and signs of crash repairs, is there anything specific I should absolutely inspect before buying one?

I’d also be interested to know whether the coupé is noticeably more troublesome or expensive to maintain than the saloon. Would you buy one again, and are there any particular years or versions you’d recommend or avoid?

Appreciate any advice!
