Is ECP worth it?
Hello there,
First of all, I know this has been discussed several times but again trying to get some perspectives. We’re in the process of buying a 2026 Toyota Sienna Limited and should get it in a month or two. I was reading about ECP and wondering how much it actually covers. I know in Canada its 7 years and 200k kms.
I currently have a 2022 Hyundai Tucson PHEV and bought an 8 year extended warranty because Hyundai had a reputation for issues. So far, after 5 years, we haven’t had any major repairs, so that warranty has never been used.
Toyota has a reputation for being very reliable, so I’m trying to get a rough sense of how often ECP ends up being used and how much people think it’s really worth. If you bought ECP on your Sienna, what did it end up covering? How much would you say the covered repairs saved you compared to what you paid for the plan? And if you skipped it, did you run into any expensive repairs after 3 years that made you wish you’d had ECP?
We’re planning to keep the Sienna 5-7 years and drive it pretty hard (20K kms/year) , so I’m just trying to decide if ECP is a “good peace of mind” or something pure cash grab from Toyota.
